What is general surgery?

“General surgery is a bit unique as opposed to other areas of medicine in that we generally treat acute medicine problems that are reversible. I like to think of general surgery as a doctor who is capable and prepared to take care of any surgical emergency of the abdomen that a patient presents with.” – Dr. Clinton Marlar

OUTPATIENT PROCEDURES

Tennessee Surgery Center in Nashville

Dr. Clinton Marlar is one of the talented surgeons offering surgical care for patients at our brand new, state-of-the-art facility in downtown Nashville.

Who is the surgery center available to?
Depending on the type of surgery needed, in some cases surgeons are able to perform surgery in an outpatient setting for patients to go home the same day. If this is an option for your surgery, your surgeon will help you understand your options.

Any questions?
If you’ve been recommended to have surgery and you’re curious if you are a good candidate, please ask your surgeon during your appointment or give the clinic location that you visited a call for more information.

What is acute diverticulitis?

The Surgeons of the The Surgical Clinic want everyone to know the signs and symptoms of a flair up in your colon that is actually an acute diverticulitis. Colonic diverticula are small herniations through points of weakness in the muscular wall of the colon, most commonly affecting the sigmoid colon. Acute diverticulitis is inflammation and infection resulting from perforation of colonic diverticula. The most common symptoms of diverticulitis are left lower quadrant abdominal pain, fevers, chills, urinary urgency and altered bowel habits. CT scan is the preferred diagnostic test for acute diverticulitis because it provides information on the severity of disease and identifies complications.

Meet Dr. Clinton Marlar

“Dr. Marlar and his staff were excellent. I was filled w/trepidation over my pending colon resection surgery. I highly recommended Dr. Marlar as did as did family members who had actually worked under Dr. Marlar in surgery. Dr. Marlar was confident, reassuring and informative as to what I could expect. My recovery progressed exactly as he said it would. His office staff was extremely helpful during calls and visits.” – Melissa G.
